Stages of the RRB JE Selection Process 2026

RRB JE CBT 1 Selection Process

CBT 1 is the first stage of the RRB JE selection process. It is a screening examination conducted to shortlist eligible applicants for CBT 2. The marks obtained in CBT 1 are generally not considered for preparing the final merit list, but you must score above the prescribed cut-off to qualify for the next stage as per the latest RRB notification. The examination is conducted online and includes objective-type multiple-choice questions from different subjects.

RRB JE CBT 2 Selection Process

CBT 2 is the most important stage of the RRB JE recruitment process because the final merit list is prepared primarily based on your performance in this examination. Only those who qualify for CBT 1 are shortlisted for CBT 2 according to the vacancy requirements specified by the Railway Recruitment Boards.

RRB JE Document Verification

If you qualify for CBT 2, you will be called for document verification based on your merit and the number of vacancies available. During this stage, the Railway Recruitment Boards verify that the information provided in your application is correct and supported by valid documents. You should carry the original documents along with self-attested photocopies in the format prescribed by the RRB. If you fail to produce the required documents or if any information is found to be incorrect, your candidature may be cancelled as per the recruitment rules.

RRB JE Medical Examination

After document verification, you must undergo a medical examination conducted by the Railway Administration. This stage is compulsory and ensures that you are medically fit to perform the duties of the post allotted to you. The medical examination is conducted according to the medical category prescribed for your post, and Railway Medical Officers assess your overall health, eyesight, and other fitness requirements before declaring you medically fit. If you do not meet the prescribed medical standards for your allotted post, you may not be considered for appointment.

How Is the Final Merit List Prepared?

The final merit list is prepared after the completion of all the selection stages. Although qualifying every stage is mandatory, your merit is primarily determined by your performance in CBT 2. The Railway Recruitment Boards prepare the final panel after considering the following factors:

• Marks obtained in CBT 2
• Verification of original documents
• Medical fitness for the allotted post
• Reservation rules and vacancy availability
• Tie-breaking rules mentioned in the official notification, in case two or more candidates secure the same marks

What Happens After the Selection Process?

Once the final merit list is released, the Railway Recruitment Boards recommend the selected names to the respective Railway Zones or Production Units for appointment. After selection, candidates may have to complete the following joining formalities:

• Complete the joining formalities.
• Submit any remaining documents, if required.
• Receive the appointment letter.
• Report to the allotted Railway Zone or Unit.
• Undergo training, wherever applicable, before starting duties.

The place of posting depends on the Railway Zone, department, and the post allotted to the candidate.
